Veeam Data Cloud Vault was designed to simplify the 3-2-1 rule by performing off-site backup in the provider's cloud. It is not just an immutable repository — it is a service fully integrated with Veeam Data Cloud.
Because of this, enabling immutability for backup copies is simple and fast. All you need to do is configure a "backup copy" job targeting the Veeam Vault repository — once the transfer succeeds, your data is safe and protected not only against malware encryption, but also against accidental deletion by an administrator.

The region and country where your backup repository will be located is decided when the service is provisioned. Depending on the tier, a dozen or more locations are available. Below are the main proposed regions for both Veeam Vault tiers (based on Azure and AWS).

Can I use Veeam Data Cloud Vault if my backup system is CommVault?
Unfortunately not. The service was designed for off-site backups for Veeam applications, including: Veeam Backup & Replication and Veeam Kasten for Kubernetes.
Can I choose the repository location when ordering?
Absolutely yes. During the first contact after ordering the service we jointly decide on the best region / country and whether the repository should run on Azure or AWS.
Important: the repository location cannot be changed after the service is provisioned.
Are backups stored in Veeam Data Cloud Vault immutable?
Yes. Backups transferred into the Vault service are immutable by default, according to parameters defined by your GFS policy. Moreover, the immutability period cannot be changed, so it is essential to design backup jobs carefully so you don't burn through your subscription capacity too quickly.
Our data must be confidential. What about encryption?
Backups are encrypted in transit to the VDC Vault repository. Encryption of backup jobs with a 256-bit AES key must be enabled inside Veeam Backup & Replication / Veeam Kasten.
What is included in the Vault service?
The service consists of cloud object storage, a service portal and data transfers (API calls). The billing unit is every started TB of repository. Data transfers in the Advanced tier are unlimited; in Foundation, free egress covers up to 20% of the ordered capacity per month (subject to the terms of service).
Are there other options for immutable backups?
Yes. There are more options. For example, you can use bulk object storage (S3 Object Storage) from one of the cloud providers, or Veeam Cloud Connect, or invest in your own backup repository based on Scality ARTESCA or Veeam Hardened Repository. Read more »»»
Can the service be billed month-to-month?
Yes. There are 4 billing periods to choose from: monthly, quarterly, half-yearly and annually. The longer the period, the bigger the discount from the list price.
